Chiropody

Chiropody is the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle conditions.
The foot is an amazingly intricate structure made up of 26 bones, 33 joints and 19 muscles, 107 ligaments and many tendons to hold the bones in place to enable flexibility.

Poor alignment of the foot can affect hips, back and knees. If left untreated this can severely effect your ability to move around efficiently. I have the specialized knowledge and skill to effectively manage and treat foot problems within all age groups from school children to the elderly.

I also design bespoke orthotics to be used in patients shoes to re-align the body thus alleviating structural problems which cause pain and reduced mobility.

Prefabricated insoles are also available where comfort, protective cushioning and support is required. If you suffer from any of the symptoms listed below why not give me a call today to arrange an appointment.

Reflexology

Reflexology is often mistaken for a foot massage, however reflexology stimulates the nerve endings of the foot which are linked to every organ and gland of the body.

Reflexology is a complementary therapy which may be used in conjunction with conventional medicine to assist the body’s recovery from certain diseases and illnesses.
It is particularly useful for stress related conditions as it helps to discharge the negative effects of stress and stimulate the body’s own healing.

What is Reflexology used to treat?

Stress
Hormonal imbalances
Menstrual problems
Pre Menstrual Syndrome
Polycystic Ovaries
Endometriosis
Under/Over active thyroid
General or recurring infections
Fluid retention
Removes toxins
Irritable bowel syndrome
  Constipation
Gall stones
Neck and shoulder tension
Muscular tension
Back ache
High or low blood pressure
Asthma
Headaches
Migraines
Anxiety
Depression

When is reflexology useful?
As active relaxation.
As part of a stress management programme.
Recuperation after illness.
In preparation for pregnancy.
Rebalancing hormones having stopped the contraceptive pill.
Sub fertility and infertility.
The 2nd & 3rd trimesters of pregnancy.

Biomechanics

Biomechanics is about how the body moves and the relationship between the movement of the lower limb and foot with the rest of the body.

Poor structure alignment and posture can lead to back, hip and knee pain as well as various foot problems, eg. Instability, corns, callous and generalised pain.

A biomechanical assessment will involve gait analysis, examination of soft tissue and muscle tone, strength and range of motion of joints.

If your condition is caused by a mechanical imbalance of a joint I may prescribe orthotics to improve joint alignment. I will also give advice on exercise and footwear if necessary.

Bespoke Orthotics

Orthotics are arch supports which go inside your shoes, Podiatric Biomechanics is the science of foot function and movement.
Orthotics realign the body and redistribute the weight so the the foot can function better. If you suffer from foot pain orthotics are made individually depending on each patient’s foot requirements. They can be made to fit into normal everyday boots, shoes, brogues, and trainers.

Permanent casted orthotics are specifically tailored to the patients needs. They are made in a laboratory from a material ranging from a carbon fibre to softer cushioning material depending on level of control required. The human foot from an evolutionary perspeective is better adapted to walk on soft surfaces such as sand and earth. Nowadays we for the most part walk on hard flat surfaces such as pavement and tile flooring.

This can cause our feet to Pronate (roll inwards) or to Supinate (roll outwards). If this happens excessively, problems can develop and this is where our Bespoke Orthotics can help. We combine traditional methods and state of the art technology to accurately study your body's motion, foot-stability, gait style and compensatory habits.
